The History of Medellín



The history of Medellín dates back to the XVII Century when the inhabitants of the Aburrá Valley, lead by plantation owners in turn miners and traders, conducted the negotiations leading to the erection of the New Villa at the site of Ana, as the Santa Elena gully was known.

Transportation

Our Symbols



The Coat of Arms:
In a blue field, it represents a gold tower; over the door is a shield with seven guns and 15 boxes: seven blue and eight gold.  At the top there are two towers and between them is the image of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, the patron saint of the city.  The Medellín Coat of Arms was awarded by the Royal Decree issued by King Charles II in Madrid.
